Blogging with AI
Enjoy the benefits of AI-assisted blogging while keeping your voice
AI writing tools are everywhere. Bloggers use them to draft posts in minutes or to polish their style. But there is a problem:
Does relying on AI lead to generic, low-quality content devoid of authenticity?
For commercial blogs, that part is obvious. I learned it first-hand. For months, I wrote with the goal of making money online. Very quickly, it was no longer me writing, it was the AI. I was merely humanising the text. I moved away from that approach (see Words that are mine), but I still use AI for research and proofreading.
I have no illusions about commercial blogs. I have seen what they become. The pressure to produce is too strong, and marketing will be dominated by AI. For those of us who blog for the pleasure of it, the goal is to find the middle ground: use AI as an assistant, while making sure the content keeps our voice and our ideas. Used well, AI can save time and even improve quality.

Why use AI in blogging?
AI is not just a fad. Adoption has been rapid. In roughly three years, AI-assisted writing has gone from almost nonexistent to being used by around 80% of bloggers, led by Gen Z and millennials.
That is a fundamental shift.
According to a Semrush study, 43% of marketers reported better rankings after using AI. In practice, AI is changing the economics of blogging. By reducing drafting time by 30–50%, it lets bloggers focus on strategy, promotion, and reader relationships. It can put independents on a more equal footing with big media.
In practice, most bloggers use AI in a collaborative way. The majority use it to find topic ideas. About 40% use it to generate titles, and a similar share to produce a basic outline. Nearly a quarter go further and draft full articles with AI, but fewer than 10% publish AI-generated text without edits.
This reflects what works best. AI is more effective as an assistant than as a replacement.
Potential and limits of AI
It is great for:
Idea generation → One of AI’s biggest strengths is helping you brainstorm. If you are stuck, tools like ChatGPT or Claude can produce a list of options in seconds.
Drafting → AI can create a quick first draft, giving you something to work with. Even if it is not perfect, it is often enough to spark your own ideas and lead to a solid article.
Editing → Tools like Grammarly, ProWritingAid, or Hemingway can highlight grammar mistakes or awkward phrasing. This lets you focus on higher-level writing decisions while AI cleans up the basics.
But it struggles with:
Factual accuracy → AI does not “know” facts, it predicts text. It can confidently state something false or even invent a source. Always verify statistics, claims, and examples before publishing (see How to fact-check your blog post).
Voice consistency → Left unchecked, AI drafts can feel flat or generic. Your posts can lose the personal touch that builds connection with readers. Your tone, style, and personality are what turn an AI-produced text into a real blog post.
Original insights → AI can recycle known information, but it cannot provide your lived experience, your case studies, or your lessons from the field. Those human elements make a blog credible and engaging.
In short, treat AI like a research assistant or junior writer. It can handle repetitive parts of writing, such as summaries or a first draft. Then adapt the text to your own voice, refining wording, rhythm, and emphasis. And add your perspective.
Assistants and editing tools
Generalist AI assistants :
- ChatGPT → Versatile AI assistant, excellent for research and drafting.
- Claude → Strong for summarization and long-form writing.
- Gemini → Google’s AI, integrated with its ecosystem.
- Perplexity → AI search engine with citations.
- DeepSeek → Strong for short-form and multilingual.
- AI-Writer → Emerging alternative, strong in reasoning.
Specialized writing & editing tools :
- Grammarly → Best for grammar & clarity.
- Anyword → Great for marketers; maintains brand voice.
- Jasper → Versatile long-form assistant.
- CopyAI → User-friendly templates, quick drafts.
- Writesonic → Strong for short-form and multilingual.
- AI-Writer → Focuses on accuracy with citations.

Final thought
AI has quickly become one of the most powerful tools in a blogger’s toolkit. Like any tool, its value depends entirely on how you use it. Treating AI as a shortcut to churn out generic articles will only weaken your brand. Used as an assistant, it can give you a real advantage.
The balance is simple. AI brings efficiency. You bring authenticity. The best blog posts combine the speed and structure AI provides with the unique stories and reflections only you can share.
